ECOCENTRODECIERTOSHABITANTES -
ARTISTIC CREATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

ECOCENTRO DE CIERTOS HABITANTES is a new project of the highly acclaimed Latin American Company TEATRO DE CIERTOS HABITANTES.  The Ecocentro offers artistic residences and retreat facilities for artistic creation, reflection, research, cultural exchange, artistic and environmental education, and the development of theatrical productions. The Ecocentro is a model cultural project of artistic inspiration, low-impact technologies, and the preservation of natural resources through the theatrical arts.

The ECOCENTRO DE CIERTOS HABITANTES is located in the municipality of Chalmita, in the Corredor Zempoala-Chalma, part of the Great Water Forest. It is a beautiful and very important forest that provides water to 35 million people, a third of Mexico’s population. Mexico has the world’s fifth most biological diversity; the country is gifted with natural resources, ecosystems and living cultures that contrast with one of the highest indices of deforestation, loss of biodiversity and cultures. Mexico’s cultural and biological diversity will only be preserved through creative conservation efforts such as ours.

The ECOCENTRO DE CIERTOS HABITANTES will be a retreat center that allows artists to bring their full concentration and creative processes to delve deeply and produce work of the highest quality. The Ecocentro will encourage expansion of consciousness where artists, guests and the local community can acknowledge, honor and experience the privilege of dwelling in primary forests, near a river and a natural spring, breathing pure air and communing with the natural world.

Established in 1997, TEATRO DE CIERTOS HABITANTES has received international acclaim for productions like Becket or the Honor of God, Monsters and Prodigies: The History of the Castrati, The Grey Automobile and Where Will I Be Tonight? Both the company and director Claudio Valdés Kuri have received accolades from audiences worldwide and numerous awards from critics’ associations.
